TFO Project Healing Waters Fly Rod

Today i am reviewing the TFO Project Healing Waters 8wt 9' 4pc Fly Rod. First off i have to say the TFO PHW Fly Rod feels really great, it has a really nice build, light in weight, and the quality of the build is excellent. The PHW fly rod goes together smoothly and the alignment dots make it easy to get perfect alignment when assembling the fly rod. THE PHW fly rod comes in two weight options....a 5wt 9' 4pc 3.8oz at $149 and a 8wt 9' 4pc 4.4oz at $159.

The TFO PHW fly rod comes in a really nice looking bag which you can use to store the fly rod but it doesnt offer any protection if something is dropped on it. I would suggest using a rod case.

The reel seat has a really solid feel to it and there is a little ring in front of the back adjustment screw that holds the fly reel in place which makes for a really tight fitting solid connection. The end of the TFO PHW fly rod has a really nice and comfortable rod butt with a felt end over the cork.

Nice gold dots for allignment, nice fly line guides, and nice translucent blue IM6 rod blank with gold lettering.

The Project Healing Waters Logo says it all.........
Project Healing Waters is a joint activity initiated by Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers offering wounded military personnel the opportunities to learn, or enhance, fly fishing skills on fishing outings. Project staff instructors and outgoing leaders include professional educators and fishing guides, as well as experienced fishers, all of whom donate the their time and efforts. Temple Fork Outfitters has designed two distinctive fly rods displaying the Project Healing Waters logo shown above. PHW rods are built on translucent blue Professional Series blanks with gold lettering inscribed with the words "Healing Those Who Serve".

* A $25 contribution will be made to Project Healing Waters for every PHW rod that is purchased through an authorized TFO dealer.

As far as performance...... i really like how the TFO PHW fly rod handles and casts....it casts smoothly, accurately, has a medium fast tip, which i like cause it doesnt feel like you are casting with a broom stick!!

Bulls On Top!!!

Skinny Water Arsenal's Stoker Lures

Skinny Water Arsenal's Stokers are a very tough bait they are 6 inches long with the hook system embedded in the lure itself. The hook goes through a hole in the back of the lure which keeps it flush with the lure body and weedless, the hook does not tear into the lure at all due to the hole in the back of the lure. The Stoker's come in two styles....the (RT) Rat Tail and (TT) Twitch Tail in a wide assortment of colors.

The Stoker has a slightly heavy feel to it and you can cast it a mile but the action imitates a bait very well. You can walk the dog on and below the surface with this lure, skim the surface like a fleeing baitfish, work it like a jerkbait, or swim it like a swim bait. The Stoker has a really great bait profile that Redfish and Trout will slam if you present it to them properly.
I highly recommend the Skinny Water Arsenal Stokers!!

Onyx A/M-24 Auto/Manual Inflatable PFD

The Onyx A/M-24 Auto/Manual inflatable PFD is a very well made, light weight PFD that you will forget you are wearing while on the water. No longer do you have to worry about a big bulky PFD getting in your way or making you feel like you are wearing a life raft around you chest. The Onyx A/M-24 is so comfortable yet it is there when you need it. Rearming and repacking the Onyx A/M-24 is very quick and easy, all you have to do is go to your local, Academy, Dicks, or other sporting good store that sells the Onyx brand and buy the rearming kit which is about $15-$20. I have used the Onyx A/M-24 for almost a year now and i can say that it will not inflate if you get swamped by a wave chest high in a kayak, it will only inflate if you fall in the water. I once was swamped by a boater being careless on the water when he tried to pass another boat on the ICW in Charleston SC and he came within 30-40 yards of me and he sent a wave my way as i was fishing and i took a wave about chest high. The Onyx A/M-24 did not go off because i wasnt submerged in the water, i was only splashed by his wake so it works when it is suppose to. Another scenario.....while i was fishing a shell bank in Charleston SC another boat doing the same thing as above came to close when being careless on the water and i had the Onyx A/M-24 in the seat of my Wilderness Systems Ride 135 when a wave swamped my kayak and the Onyx A/M-24 did go off as it was submerged under the water for just a split second.....it expanded in a blink of an eye. Rearming and packing the Onyx A/M-24 was a breeze. I highly recommend the Onyx A/M-24 to all kayak fisherman and although it doesnt have pockets you dont have to feel like you have anything in your way and will still be protected while on the water.
